Area Attractions

Moon Gate is nestled alongside the bank of the Whitemouth River about 5 km’s south of Whitemouth, MB. Whitemouth was also home to Dr. Charlotte Ross, Manitoba’s first woman physician, who practiced medicine in Whitemouth from 1881 to 1912.

The Whitemouth River invites not only avid fisherman but also keen canoeists and kayakers.  The river extends from #1 Highway to Seven Sisters and provides prime spots for whitewater kayaking.  The RM also contains the Whitemouth Bog Ecological Reserve, Whitemouth Bog Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and Observation Point WMA that are protected by the province.

A short drive away is Seven Sisters, known for the Whitemouth Falls Provincial Park and Seven Sisters Hydro Dam, a meeting point of the Whitemouth River and the Winnipeg River.  This is a great day outing for a picnic with your family, an artist’s retreat or a photographer’s dream.

Winter activities in the area include 6kms of groomed classic cross-country ski trails accessible from the road.  The Eastman Sno Pals Trail connects with the Whiteshell and Can-Am Trails.  With Moon Gate B&B as your home base, long trips or short jaunts can be planned on the intricate system of trails here in the RM of Whitemouth.

The area boasts several U-pick berry and vegetable farms and if you’re lucky, you’ll find a wild blueberry or mushroom patch.  Wild edibles are abundant. Here at Moon Gate we take advantage of seasonal vegetables and fruit in our culinary creations.

Carvers, potters, traditional stained-glass, photographers and wild-life artists make this area their home and welcome visitors through the summer and winter. Gather a few friends for an artist’s retreat at Moon Gate and explore your hidden talents.

Whether it’s peace and solitude or action packed fun, the RM of Whitemouth has much to offer.
