Join us on September 28 for an exploration of Metis culture at Moon Gate Guest House located on Treaty 3. Learn about the fur trade history, focusing on the bison hunt and use of the Red River Cart. Experience hands on activities, arts, and entertainment with Truth & Reconciliation at the heart of the experience.

There will be three Metis culture stations set up where you will have opportunity to assemble and disassemble a smaller replica of the Red River cart under the guidance of Armand and Kelly Jerome of Jerome Cartworks. Listen to stories about the historical significance of the cart and its role in the fur trade.

Historians Georges and Florence Beaudry of O’Roseau will share engaging stories and songs about the fur trade era and the bison hunt. Be prepared for an interactive experience with artifacts and historical items. Florence will guide you in hands-on learning about traditional Metis finger weaving with an item you get to take home.

Melanie Gamache of Borealis Beading will engage you in an interactive beading workshop with memorabilia you create yourself. Her stories about the cultural and historical significance of beadwork to the Métis people will give you insights into beading traditions. Follow along as she guides you and listen to her personal stories of growing up Metis.

Michel Dupas will create a contemporary version of traditional Metis food for lunch featuring bannock pops and Bison bannock pizza. Ask him about growing up in Churchill and eating wild game and fish. His mother, Lorette taught him and his siblings how to cook at a young age. There will be other treats for purchase.

Come evening our long table dinner will have you immersed in Metis hospitality. You’ll hear lively music, listen to stories being told, and indulge in special mocktails/cocktails made from Manitoba ingredients. The music will keep your jigging feet moving into the wee hours with special musical guests to be announced.

The long table dinner tickets are sold separately and will have limited seating. See separate event for more details.
